Film Locations around Salzburg – Private Half-Day Tour
All prices include VAT.
In 1965 Salzburg and the Salzkammergut were the setting for one of the best-known films ever shot here — and the places are still standing. The gazebo is in the Hellbrunn palace park a few kilometres south of the old town and can be viewed from outside. In Mondsee, a good half hour to the north-east, stands St. Michael's Basilica, where the wedding scene was filmed. From there the route continues to St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang and back to Salzburg past Lake Fuschl — these are the lakes seen from the air at the very beginning. You travel privately: the car and the driver are yours for these hours, with no fixed departure time and no strangers along. How long you stay at each place is your decision as you go. We recommend the morning, when the basilica is quieter and the light over the lakes is better. One thing to know in advance so you can plan: Schloss Leopoldskron, whose lakeside appears in several scenes, is a privately run hotel. We drive past it, but it cannot be entered.
