The resort

Good to know about Dienten

Dienten is a mountain village of around 800 people at about 1,070 m, and the tourist board calls it the heart of the Hochkönig region. It sits between Mühlbach and Maria Alm in the middle of the ski area, with lifts starting right in the village.

  • Lifts in the village: the Dacheggbahn, the Skizentrum Dienten and the Liebenau drag lift
  • Grünegg natural toboggan run: 1.5 km, floodlit at night, with a half-hour walk up

Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach share the Hochkönig ski area: 120 km of pistes and 34 lifts. The Königstour ski safari links all three villages.

Getting there: We take the Tauern motorway to Bischofshofen, then the Hochkönig road (B164) through Mühlbach and on to Dienten. Coming from the other side, via Saalfelden and Maria Alm, is the longer way.

Why is Dienten further than Mühlbach and Maria Alm?

Because from either side Dienten lies beyond one of its neighbours: via Bischofshofen you pass Mühlbach first, via Saalfelden Maria Alm. That adds up to 77 km and about 70 minutes; the fixed price is €230 per vehicle, or €58 each for four.

Is there a ski bus from Dienten to Mühlbach?

No — according to the Hochkönig ski region there is no ski bus between Dienten and Mühlbach. You can still ski across on the Königstour, and within Dienten the free ski bus takes you to the lifts.

How many passengers with ski equipment fit in the vehicle?

Up to 6 passengers with suitcases and full ski equipment. Without skis up to 8 passengers. For larger groups we add a second vehicle.

How do I pay?
