Good to know about Mittersill

Mittersill sits in the Upper Pinzgau where two pass roads meet: the Pass Thurn heads north to Kitzbühel, the Felbertauern road south to East Tyrol. You join the KitzSki area via the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in neighbouring Hollersbach, and from there you can ski all the way to the Streif without taking your skis off.

Two main valleys run through the Pinzgau, the western part of the Salzburg region: the Saalach valley with Lofer and Saalfelden, and the upper Salzach valley with Mittersill and Neukirchen am Großvenediger. Besides the Skicircus and Zell am See-Kaprun, the area has ski resorts of its own, such as the Wildkogel-Arena around Neukirchen and Bramberg.

Getting there: The shortest way comes in from the north: Bad Reichenhall, Lofer, St. Johann in Tirol, Kitzbühel and finally the Pass Thurn, from where the road drops down to Mittersill. The first 20-odd km after the border are in Bavaria, so everyone in the vehicle should carry ID. Depending on conditions we may also take the route via Zell am See; the fixed price stays the same. After snowfall chains may be required – our vehicles are winter-equipped, and we build extra time into the pick-up time.
