Good to know about Katschberg

Katschberg sits at the top of the pass between the Lungau and Carinthia. The ski area rises to 2,220 m on the Aineck, and some hotels let you ski straight from the door. We stay on the Tauern motorway nearly to the end, through the Tauern tunnel as far as St. Michael im Lungau.

The Lungau lies south of the Tauern range, and from Salzburg you reach it through the Tauern tunnel or over the Radstädter Tauern pass. Its four ski areas — Katschberg, Grosseck-Speiereck, Fanningberg and Obertauern — add up to more than 300 km of pistes.

Getting there: From the St. Michael im Lungau exit, the final few kilometres climb the Katschberg road (B99) to the top of the pass, so we don’t use the Katschberg tunnel. After snowfall chains may be required – our vehicles are winter-equipped, and we build extra time into the pick-up time.
