Good to know about Königsleiten

Königsleiten is a mountain village of small chalets at 1,600 m, with the Zillertal Arena slopes starting right outside. The ski area may carry the Zillertal’s name, but Königsleiten itself is in the Salzburg region, on the border with Tyrol — so we drive up through the Pinzgau rather than through the Zillertal.

• Zillertal Arena: skiing up to 2,500 m, with 77% of the pistes above 1,700 m
• Kristallbad pool in Wald with a 50-metre tube slide and a children’s pool
• Cross-country trails in Wald-Königsleiten, for both classic and skating

The Zillertal Arena joins Zell am Ziller, Gerlos, Königsleiten, Wald and Krimml/Hochkrimml, reaching from the Tyrolean Zillertal into Salzburg’s Pinzgau. Altogether it has 150 km of pistes and 52 lifts.

Getting there: The shortest way runs through Bavaria near Bad Reichenhall, then via Lofer and Saalfelden to Zell am See and west along the Upper Pinzgau through Mittersill to Wald, where the Gerlos road climbs to Königsleiten. Have an ID card or passport with you, as the first part of the route is on German soil. Going via the Tauern motorway and Bischofshofen takes about as long, and the fixed price is the same either way. After snowfall chains may be required – our vehicles are winter-equipped, and we build extra time into the pick-up time.
