Good to know about St. Michael im Lungau

St. Michael sits right on the Tauern motorway in the Lungau, beyond the Tauern tunnel. The village nestles between the Grosseck-Speiereck and Katschberg ski areas, and the Sonnenbahn, an eight-seater gondola, takes you up the Speiereck.

The Lungau lies south of the Tauern range, and from Salzburg you reach it through the Tauern tunnel or over the Radstädter Tauern pass. Its four ski areas — Katschberg, Grosseck-Speiereck, Fanningberg and Obertauern — add up to more than 300 km of pistes.

Is it motorway all the way to St. Michael?

Almost: we only leave the Tauern motorway at the St. Michael exit, and from there it’s about two kilometres. The 109 km take roughly 75 minutes; the fixed price is €325 per vehicle, or €585 with the return trip.

Can we also ski on the Katschberg from St. Michael?

Yes — the free ski bus runs from St. Michael to both ski areas, Grosseck-Speiereck and Katschberg. If you are staying up on the Katschberghöhe, the Katschberg page has the price for that.

How many passengers with ski equipment fit in the vehicle?

Up to 6 passengers with suitcases and full ski equipment. Without skis up to 8 passengers. For larger groups we add a second vehicle.

How do I pay?
