Ellmau lies right at the foot of the Wilder Kaiser. The Hartkaiserbahn gondola carries you from the village up into the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser–Brixental, which stretches from the Kaiser mountains across to the Brixental.

The Kitzbühel Alps stretch from Kitzbühel through the Brixental and the Hohe Salve area to St. Johann in Tirol and the Pillerseetal. Several big ski areas sit side by side here, KitzSki around Kitzbühel among them.

Getting there: From Lofer we follow the B178 through St. Johann in Tirol all the way to Ellmau, with no motorway. Before that the route passes through Bavaria near Bad Reichenhall, so please bring your ID.
