Good to know about Kaprun

Kaprun is the village beneath the Kitzsteinhorn, where glacier skiing usually gets going in October and carries on into May. Two cable cars take you from the village centre via the Maiskogel all the way up, and Zell am See with its Schmittenhöhe is right next door.

Zell am See and Kaprun share two very different mountains: the Schmittenhöhe above the lake, with 77 km of pistes, and the Kitzsteinhorn with 61 km, where the glacier season opens as early as October.

Getting there: Usually via Bad Reichenhall, Lofer and Zell am See, which includes a stretch through Bavaria, so please bring ID. In heavy traffic we switch to the Tauern motorway; the fixed price doesn’t change.
