Good to know about Lofer

Lofer lies in Salzburg’s Saalach valley, where the Salzburg region meets Tyrol and Bavaria. Its home mountain is the Almenwelt Lofer, a family-friendly ski area whose two eight-seater chairlifts are built to be child-safe.

  • A covered magic carpet for the youngest skiers, 140 m long
  • Hexen Funline by the SenderExpress chairlift: about 1 km of rollers, jumps and banked turns

Two main valleys run through the Pinzgau, the western part of the Salzburg region: the Saalach valley with Lofer and Saalfelden, and the upper Salzach valley with Mittersill and Neukirchen am Großvenediger. Besides the Skicircus and Zell am See-Kaprun, the area has ski resorts of its own, such as the Wildkogel-Arena around Neukirchen and Bramberg.

Getting there: Lofer is reached via the “Kleines Deutsches Eck”: from the Walserberg the B21 runs for just over 20 km through Bavaria, past Bad Reichenhall, and only crosses back into Austria near Unken. That puts more than half of the journey in Germany, so please bring valid ID for every guest.

Is there more than one ski area around Lofer?

Yes. Besides the Almenwelt Lofer, the Saalach valley has the Heutal near Unken, and passes from the 3 Länder Freizeit-Arena ticket pool add more areas, such as the Steinplatte at Waidring and Reit im Winkl.

How many passengers with ski equipment fit in the vehicle?

Up to 6 passengers with suitcases and full ski equipment. Without skis up to 8 passengers. For larger groups we add a second vehicle.
