The resort

Good to know about Waidring

Waidring is in the Pillersee valley, just over the Pass Strub on the Tyrolean side. Above the village rises the Steinplatte, which together with the Winklmoosalm forms a ski area where Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria meet, with sunny runs on a plateau reaching 1,860 m.

  • Steinplatte-Winklmoosalm: 40 km of pistes and lifts up to 1,860 m, with some runs crossing the border
  • Triassic Park in winter too: a winter trail to the viewing platform and dripstone cave, and the Triassic Funline with dinosaur figures
  • Triassic Kinderland for beginners in the Hausberg-Arena in the village centre

The Kitzbühel Alps stretch from Kitzbühel through the Brixental and the Hohe Salve area to St. Johann in Tirol and the Pillerseetal. Several big ski areas sit side by side here, KitzSki around Kitzbühel among them.

Getting there: As far as Lofer the route crosses the “Kleines Deutsches Eck”, just over 20 km through Bavaria; then the B178 climbs over the Pass Strub, and Waidring is only a few kilometres further. You’ll need your ID for the German stretch.
