Good to know about Gosau

Gosau is in Upper Austria’s Salzkammergut, over the Pass Gschütt that separates it from Salzburg’s Lammertal. The Hornspitzbahn takes you from the village straight into the Dachstein West ski area, and Hallstatt is not far away.

  • Two children’s areas: Fredy-Land beside the Hornspitzbahn valley station, and Zwisi-Land

Dachstein West links Gosau, in Upper Austria’s Salzkammergut, with Russbach and Annaberg on the Salzburg side, set between the Dachstein glacier, the Gosaukamm and the Tennengebirge. The Dachstein Tour runs for 44 km of pistes through all three villages, with the glacier in view the whole way. Multi-day passes from one and a half days open up 70 lifts in seven regions.

Gosau is in Upper Austria — do you still drive there from Salzburg?

Yes. We take the Tauern motorway to Golling, follow the Lammertal past Abtenau and cross the Pass Gschütt — the same approach Dachstein West itself gives for Salzburg. That’s about 55 minutes’ driving for 63 km, and the vehicle costs €190.

Can we ski from Gosau over to Annaberg?

Yes — the Dachstein Tour links Gosau, Russbach and Annaberg on skis. According to Dachstein West, the Angeralm and Aussichtsberg six-seater chairlifts, which share a valley station, make getting between Gosau and Annaberg even easier.

How many passengers with ski equipment fit in the vehicle?

Up to 6 passengers with suitcases and full ski equipment. Without skis up to 8 passengers. For larger groups we add a second vehicle.
